Watch most amateurs through impact and you will see the same thing: the weight never leaves the back foot. They hang on their right side, the body stalls, the arms take over, and the ball comes out weak and high with no compression. Then they buy a new driver, which changes nothing, because the club was never the problem.
Power does not come from swinging harder. It comes from getting your weight to the lead side at impact. That is what creates compression, and compression is what creates distance. The hard part is feeling it, because "shift your weight" is one of those tips that makes sense in your head and disappears the second you swing.
So forget thinking about weight. Think about Elvis.
As you start the downswing, twist your right knee and right hip inward toward your left knee. Just like the King. This one move does everything you need: it shifts your weight aggressively onto your lead side, it clears your hips out of the way, and it lets your body rotate fully through impact instead of stalling. The result is better compression, more power, and contact that actually feels athletic instead of armsy.
Practice it like this. Set up normally. On the downswing, focus only on that right knee and right hip twisting inward toward the left knee. Feel your weight surge onto your left side as the hips rotate through. Do ten to fifteen slow practice swings with no ball, just grooving the move. Then hit ten to fifteen balls thinking about nothing but the twist and the weight shift to the left. You will know it is working when your finish feels balanced and your divots (or the strike) feel crisp instead of thin.
The one mistake to avoid: turning this into a pure hip spin with no weight transfer. The Elvis image is about the twist, but the goal is the shift. If your hips are spinning and your weight is still on your back foot, you missed it. The twist is the trigger. The weight surging to the lead side is the point.
Twist the right knee and hip in. Shift the weight left. Better rotation, better compression, more power.
